Eurovelo 1/ Ecovia

The diversity of the Algarve's landscapes, its abundant nature, built heritage and pleasant climate all year round are factors that combine to make the region an ideal destination for outdoor activities in general and cycle outings in particular.

If you are a cycling enthusiast, don't miss the Ecovia do Litoral, which is part of the Eurovelo 1 – Atlantic Coast Route. It takes you from one end of the Algarve to the other, connecting Vila Real de Santo António in the east to Cape Saint Vincent in the west, over a distance of 214 kilometres. It then takes you along the Ecovia do Litoral Sudoeste for some 50 km to Aljezur on the south-west coast.

On this route, you will have the opportunity to discover magnificent coastal scenery, passing through cities, towns and areas of preserved nature, such as the Ria Formosa Nature Park, the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Nature Park and the Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António Marshland Nature Reserve.

Parts of the Ecovia are exclusively for non-motorised vehicles, while others are for mixed use on roads and trails where traffic is light.

Bring your own bicycle or hire one locally and explore the Algarve's coast at your own pace.
