Training Champions

Training Champions

Champions are made in the Algarve. The gentle climate, low rainfall, an average of 3,000 hours of sunshine a year and the Algarve’s sports facilities are the perfect training conditions that Europe’s top-class athletes need. Clubs, coaches and athletes choose the Algarve as a training venue for sports such as football, track and field athletics, cross-country running, canoeing, tennis and rugby, to name but a few. Training camps are held here for athletes from all over the world. So don’t be surprised if you suddenly come face-to-face with an Olympic champion. While the rest of Europe shivers in the winter cold, here in the Algarve the sunshine and excellent sports facilities foster record-breaking performances.

Over the years, there has been considerable investment in the construction of modern sports complexes. These include the Sports Complexes in Vila Real de Santo António and Quarteira, the Municipal Stadium in Vilamoura, the athletics track in Faro and the Estádio Algarve (Algarve Stadium). And these are just a few of the sports facilities in the Algarve that offer the ideal conditions for a wide variety of professional and top-level sport.

In addition to training opportunities, the Algarve also hosts national and international competitions and championships in sports such as golf, power boating, cross-country running, cycling, sports fishing, sailing, mountain biking, tennis, football and acrobatic sports.

The various certificates of approval such as Olympic Preparation Centre (Portuguese Olympic Committee), Official Training Centre (Euro 2004) and Training Centre for Middle Distance, Distance and Cross-country Running (International Association of Athletics Federations) prove that training in the Algarve is an excellent way to achieve first class sporting results.
As you can see, the Algarve offers all the conditions you need to make it on to the podium.
