Next to the Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António Marshland Nature Reserve, you will find traditional saltpans where the fleur de sel is harvested manually at precisely the best time, as determined by nature. The producers repeat the ancient gestures over and over to harvest the salt and preserve it, so that buyers can enjoy it.

On a guided tour of the Salmarim's traditional saltpans you will learn about the magical world of salt and an ancient activity that, today, still results in a product of the highest quality. In addition to an explanation about how the salt forms and is harvested, you can also sample some in a blind tasting session.
