The António Rosa Mendes Municipal History Archive brings together the collection from the old canning factories and the permanent exhibition portrays the sardine and tuna cycles from the moment of capture through to the time when the cans leave the factory to go on sale to the public. Every stage in canning process is documented by means of photographs, models, machinery and a variety of objects, some of which were provided by people and institutions connected to this industrial activity. In this process, lithography was very important since it consisted in the production of labels for the cans. It was an artistic and aesthetic task, particularly when you consider that, in those days, it was essentially done by hand.
