Celebrating food, sport and culture

One of the main reasons for visiting and spending time in the Algarve is undoubtedly the great ability of the Algarvian people to celebrate life. This means that there is a party all through the year. In the Algarve, there is always a reason to celebrate, and Algarvians love having people join in their celebrations, always welcoming visitors with open arms.

Being so varied, these events have something for everybody.  There are many reasons for celebrations in the Algarve, all serving to keep religious and popular traditions alive.  Many celebrate nature, giving thanks for harvests and paying homage to religious figures.  Other reasons are sporting and cultural events which, throughout each month, bring the whole area to life, making the Algarve today an important sporting venue for golf, athletics, cycling and motor sports, as well as cultural events such as jazz, folklore and stage arts.
