Live Science Centres (Centros de Ciência Viva (CCV))

Discover the mysteries of the Universe

At the Centros de Ciência Viva (Living Science Centres), science is presented in a stimulating and interactive way through experiments and observations.  This is another great choice for a different kind of experience.

Within the complex of the old electricity power plant in Faro, the Algarve CCV has a permanent display of ocean life in addition to areas dedicated to other fields of knowledge.  Here, you can observe the Sun and planets, take a glimpse into the possible future of agriculture or cyberspace, as well as take part in many other activities.

At the Tavira CCV, water and energy are the main themes.  In the Tavira Tower, there is a Dark Room, where you can see the whole city, using the optic principle on which photography is based.   Invented by Leonardo da Vinci, the “camera” allows for a mirror image of all the row of houses and the city is revealed in all its splendour.

Located in an area of rich natural beauty, the João Lúcio House is one of the best examples of Algarve’s Architectural heritage.  Here, you can visit the Ecoteca de Olhão, and the exhibition, Olhar o Passado (Looking Back), in which you can learn about the main traditional occupations of the region.

These are just a few suggestions for parents and children to have a different kind of day out.
