Retreat into nature at its most luxuriant
The generosity that Nature has bestowed upon the Algarve is a privilege best enjoyed on relaxing walks from which you can emerge refreshed.
The National Forest of Barão de São João, 9 km from Lagos is a natural reserve with dense Mediterranean vegetation. It is a leisure zone established in the very heart of nature, boasting a training circuit and six pedestrian trails. It is also an important hunting area.
The Fontes de Estombar Site is an ideal place for a park on the left bank of the Arade River, with fresh water fountains and springs. The pool of the tide mill is a lake bordered by olive trees.
The Lagoa Municipal Leisure and Environmental Park (Parque Municipal de Lazer e Educação Ambiental de Lagoa) has training circuits and vegetation worthy of observation to help you explore and experience first-hand 18 hectares of nature.
Behind the exotic vegetation surrounding it, there is a 100-step walk that descends to a hidden waterfall, the Pego do Inferno, which is several metres high and forms a natural pool to bathe in.
Within the National Ecological Reserve seven kilometres from Tavira, this waterfall emerges from a rock, and is surrounded by welcoming canes and poplars which give shade to the area. The trail and picnic area make this an irresistible area for a picnic.
