For those who enjoy the beach ‘au naturel’
With naturism growing in popularity, the Algarve offers excellent facilities. Three of the seven officially designated beaches in Portugal are located in the Algarve: Barril in Tavira, Adegas in Odeceixe and Deserta in Faro.
Barril is located 1.5 km from the tourist train station. With calm seas and clean sand, this is an attractive beach for going natural, as well as Ilha Deserta.
Adegas, where naturism is practised all year round, is in cove south of the main Odeceixe beach. Access is good and it is worth visiting because of its exotic and welcoming natural environment.
For those wanting to combine naturism with camping, Parque da Quinta do Carriços (Quinta Carriços Park) in Vila do Bispo is the perfect choice.
There are other beaches where you can practise nudism as they are in remote locations and access is more difficult. These are called “tolerated beaches”. The Portuguese Naturists Federation (www.fpn.pt.) recommends Bordeira in Carrapateira; Cabanas Velhas, Furnas and Zavial in Vila do Bispo; and Beliche in Sagres, all on the Vicentina (west) Coast. Also recommended are Pinheiros in Lagos, Armona in Olhão, and the Quatro Águas in Tavira, along the southern coast.
