Beaches of the Vicentine Coast (Costa Vicentina)

Natural treasures for quiet enjoyment

The Vicentine Coast, located in the South-Western Nature Park, has beaches which are true gems of Nature, yet with tourist facilities which make them perfect for family holidays.

These beaches are excellent for nature lovers who value peaceful settings in areas where man lives in harmony with the fauna and flora of Europe’s best preserved coastline.

The most outstanding of these is Odeceixe, at the mouth of the Odeceixe River on the border with the Alentejo region.  This beach is surrounded by cliffs, a distinctive feature of this coastal landscape.  This is a wide sandy beach with both sea water and fresh water forming small lagoons at low tide, just perfect for calm bathing and peaceful walks to neighbouring beaches.

To the south near Vale de Telha, Monte Clérigo is one of the best beaches because of its natural beauty and wonderful surroundings. A small pretty fishing village lends a certain charm to this vast sandy beach.

Arrifana is the first beach after Ponta da Atalaia.  It is in a cove surrounded by high escarpments with the houses of the charming village nestling along the slopes all the way down to the shore.
