Alcoutim seeking another 3 thousand beds

The municipality of Alcoutim is currently seeking another three thousand beds for tourist accommodation purposes and will be inviting proposals in November for their provision. Four investors have already expressed their interest in this project.

According to the mayor of Alcoutim, Francisco Amaral, there are plans to build four tourist accommodation units, providing another three thousand beds for the area – from a total of 24 thousand new beds planned for the Algarve as a whole – awarded to the municipality under the scope of the Tourist Development Centres established in the Algarve Land Use Plan.

One of these is the riverside development known as “Portelas do Guadiana”, close to the town of Alcoutim and centred upon golf and horse-riding. The plans for this area include the building of a hotel and a series of villas.

Another development is “Finca Rodillas”, linked to golf and hunting. This leaves another two: “Herdade de Ferrarias”, a development devoted to ecotourism and golf, and “Moinhos de Cadavais”, an ecological project with wooden houses, to be built next to the Alcoutim dam and reservoir.

The municipal services are currently drawing up the rules governing the call for tenders, which is set to be launched in November. The plan is for work to begin on these developments next year.
