Márcia Barradas was born 7th October, 1973 in Huambo, Angola, and moved to Portugal with her parents and siblings, because of the civil war that ravaged the country in 1975. She began working in photography at the age of 16. Two years later, she completed her first course in B&W development techniques by Faro’s Portuguese Youth Institute. A trip to Kolkata - the ‘City of Joy’, as is known, left a lasting impression on her. ‘I can still hear the noises, the smells, the colours… of that city’.
